Witness ancient brilliance in each of the Hopewell earthworks

A memorable and enriching experience

The Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks has received a grant from the Kettering Family Philanthropies for outdoor maintenance equipment at Fort Ancient Earthworks & Nature Preserve.

Fort Ancient is one of the eight locations in the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, Ohio’s first and only UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks comprise the single greatest concentration of ancient monumental landscape architecture in the world; all eight locations are unparalleled works of human creative genius with vast, precise dimensions incorporating complex sun and moon cycles.

Fort Ancient, built around 2,000 years ago, is the largest hilltop enclosure in North America. As a primarily outdoor experience, the grant will allow for updated and additional equipment to help maintain 126 stunning acres, including hiking trails, and provide year-round access to thousands of visitors each year.
